The most anticipated date on the world dining calendar is moving continents. For the first time in its 24-year history, the World’s 50 Best Restaurants ceremony will take place in Latin America. The event lands in Lima, Peru, on 4 November, the organisers announced on 10 July.
The choice isn’t a stretch. Lima is already home to Maido, crowned The World’s Best Restaurant 2025, along with three other tables from last year’s top 50: Kjolle, Merito and Mayta. The Peruvian capital hardly needed to prove its culinary credentials to anyone.
The host city wasn’t set in stone, though. Organisers had first announced Abu Dhabi before switching to Lima, working with PromPeru, the country’s public tourism board, for the occasion.
Another strong signal for this edition: Maido will join the exclusive “Best of the Best” club, made up of every restaurant that has ever topped the ranking and is therefore no longer eligible for future editions. Chef Mitsuharu Tsumura’s restaurant becomes the second Lima address to earn that status, after Central, named No. 1 in 2023.
The programme is packed. The day before the ceremony, on 3 November, the #50BestTalks conference brings together chefs and industry figures for a series of conversations. Dominique Crenn and Jeremy Chan both took part last year. A series of ticketed “Signature Sessions” will also let Lima restaurants host visiting chefs from around the world for one-off dinners.
The 2025 list honoured restaurants from 32 cities across 22 countries. This year’s full ranking won’t be revealed until the evening of 4 November, streamed live on the organisation’s YouTube channel for anyone who can’t make the trip to Peru.
